Recognition is a basic need. At the most basic level, it makes us feel valued, which motivates us to stay happy at work. Of all the important things in the workplace, helping employees feel valued is the most important.
I've always believed that when people are encouraged to strive for excellence, they thrive.
In many organizations, recognition is highly undervalued unless it's specifically related to promotions or evaluations.
Being appreciated for one's efforts often goes unnoticed. As a result, doubt begins to creep in, and it makes employees feel like they don't belong.
For me, there is no timeline for employee recognition. This is not limited to the assessment day. This should be done year-round.
Here are three reasons why this is so:
1. Recognized Employees Are Happy Employees
Let's put it this way: when you start appreciating people for their work, you spread good vibes in the office, resulting in a more productive work environment. Show your employees that you see their efforts. Tell them how much of an impact they have for your organization and its goals.
2. When employees feel happy, they stay!
Happy employees tend to stay longer in an organization and perform better. This means that if you have talented and high-performing members on your team, make sure their efforts are not overlooked. This will not only help you increase employee retention, but it will also save time and money.
3. It fosters an atmosphere of trust and teamwork
Honestly, you'd be surprised how much a simple "thank you" fosters an atmosphere of trust and collaboration. Knowing that your efforts are recognized and appreciated by people higher up the management chain really helps to feel deeper connections in the workplace – and this is another reason why recognition is important, and it should be practiced year-round.

In Conclusion
There's nothing worse than not feeling appreciated at work. If you're worried about your organization's success, you might also start to worry about recognizing and celebrating the "great work" of your teams.
Take the time to show your employees that you appreciate their efforts. Make them feel good!
